Over the weekend we experienced an accident with Will. On Sunday he touched both hands to our gas fireplace. He suffered 1st & 2nd degree burns on his palms, finger tips and pads of each hand. We took him in to the ER and they suggested to have a burn doctor in the Twin Cities at the Regional Pediatric Burn unit take a look at him the next day. So on Monday we made the trip. The appointment went well. They said we were doing everything right. They used some special gauze on both hands to help with the healing. We keep these special "mittens" on for a week and go back next Monday to have them taken off. The doctor said they should be almost or completely healed by then. He said there shouldn't be a need for any skin grafting. We feel pretty awful for not being aware of how hot that glass got. On top of his boo-boo's, he had more shots today; synagis for RSV and the flu vaccine. AND on top of that we are teething which is resulting in a very sore bottom. Thankfully, my mom was planning to come over to visit us this week anyway. So she's been a big help. It's pretty challenging for Will to grab anything. His thumbs are exposed but the gauze is so big that he can't grab anything. He is walking around but can't stop himself by putting his hands up since they are pretty slippery from his mittens. So we basically have to walk behind him everywhere and help him with his sippy cup and feeding. It's going to be a long week......
He's such a trooper - with everything going on we are still getting smiles and laughs from him.

Poor little fella :'( ~ sending prayers that he will be healed very soon!!! maybe you should undo those wraps & use bagbalm on the burns too??? so sorry that you are having to go thru this, i know it hurts mommy & daddy almost more than it hurts Will! sending big hugs to all & so happy that grammy d got to come help :) xoxoxoxox
