Surgery Recap

Here's a recap of our very long, resulting in a very frustrating day of surgery. 

• Will's check-in time is 11 am with surgery expected around noon.
• We were told the surgeries scheduled before Will are running behind. So Will takes a nap while we wait. DH gets on the phone with the anesthesia doc that is scheduled for Will's case. (One perk of being in the field)

• Still waiting at 3:30 pm. Will now has gone without any liquids since 9 am this morning and without eating a thing since 5 pm the day before. Mom & Dad are very upset with the waiting game. 
• Mom & Dad even question about going ahead with the surgery today since Will is hungry and thirsty. At 4 pm we were told by the anesthesiologist that he should be in surgery no later than 5 pm.
• From 4 pm til 5:50 pm we wait in the pre-op room. This picture is taken in the pre-op room where we tried to entertain a toddler for almost 2 hrs in a room the size of a closet. 

• 5 pm Will and Mom reach their breaking point. Both are crying due to the frustration and hunger! 
• 6 pm the doctors come to take Will back. 
• 7:45 pm the surgeries are done. The EGD and g-tube hernia repair go smoothly. The bronchoscopy shows 2 cysts on his trachea which the doctor had to laser off. This results in us staying overnight in the PICU because they want to take precautions with anything dealing with the trachea.

• 8:45 Wednesday morning we are discharged from the hospital. Will had a pretty good night sleeping soundly from midnight to 7 am. Once home he's been really good. He's got a sore tummy and a sore throat but is still running around and acting mostly like himself.
