Love Birds Nest: Family Vacation: Sanibel Island, FL

This past week we took our family vacation to Sanibel Island. We rented a condo by the ocean for a week. We had a fun time! The kids loved the pool at the condo. Sanibel beaches are known for their world class shelling. Unfortunately, we found not only shells but also sandburs on our beach (so we bought water shoes). This made our kids not as thrilled to be at the beach. Because of all the shells the sand wasn't as nice as last year's Seaside. We did know this before booking, but now know what we prefer more with small kids. The island was great though! Lots of fun restaurants, a great canopy park, and close to Ft. Meyers if we needed to get away. The weather was great for most of the week. We had a day and a half of overcast skies and rain. But we found things to do.

Will became quite a little fish on this trip. He no longer needed the puddle jumper. He learned how to swim across the pool, dive for sticks, and float on his tummy.

One night we drove up to Captiva Island. It is a very small island connected to Sanibel. We ate at The Mucky Duck and afterwards we hung outside with the live music and played the ring toss game while waiting for the sun to set.

Our last day we had a visitor all morning, a dolphin! It came up so close to shore. The kids loved watching it poke it's head up and ride the waves in even closer than this.
