Back to the Hospital, And Back Home Again

That sums up our last few days. On Wednesday night, Will had a bad, rustless night coughing a lot. We went to our follow-up Peds appointment on Thursday where we found out Will has RSV. We didn't receive any medications or treatments the first hospital stay. We were told to just try honey, ibuprofen, hot showers and a humidifier to help with his coughing spells. After his rough night I called up my Mom to see if she could help me out Thursday night since DH was on call at the hospital that night.

Thursday night Will had a bad coughing spell again for an hour. He fell asleep ok but around 8 pm he woke up really hot and coughing again. I could tell he wasn't as bad as Sunday night but we still needed to have him checked out. So we left for the ER again. He had a fever and was having another hard time breathing. He was placed on blow-by oxygen again and we were placed in the Peds ICU floor this time. Over the night they monitored his breathing. They found out he had an ear infection too. He had a pretty hard night. Up every 15 minutes, calling for me. I couldn't hold him with all his breathing machines around him but we tried to comfort him as much as we could.

By Friday morning DH came over after his call shift from the other hospital. We were sent down to the general Peds floor where we spent another night. Will's fever broke but he still needed assistance breathing. By Friday night Will was off the oxygen and had a better night's sleep. They continued to do nebulizers for him which seemed to help. By Saturday evening we got the go ahead to come home. This time we got a prescription for nebulizers for our home. I am really thankful that my Mom was here. She was a huge help.

Our house looks like the inside of a medicine cabinet. Every counter has a layout of medications. We have a good routine down to help Will with his coughing spells. Steamy showers every morning and night, a pot of hot on the stove to keep moisture in our house, nebulizers every 4 hours, crib mattress tilted upward, humidifier in his room, ibuprofen, and tylenol, and honey. Oh, and we have bad luck. Will has been getting a shot to prevent RSV for the last three winters. A shot every month during the winter months (5 total each year) and guess who ends up still getting RSV. Ugggg. That's just life.

This was suppose to be a fun weekend but things happen. We were really sad to miss the Baptism of our Godson, Sawyer James. Thankfully, his parents didn't revoke our Godparents status. ;)  We had a Super Bowl party tonight that we were looking forward to. And tomorrow we were going to have a family day up in the Cities at the Aquarium. This was DH's first weekend off in over a month and he spent half of it in the hospital. Not where you'd like to be on your days off. And to top off the weekend, DH did get my cold. I'm all cleared up, but sadly DH is miserable now.

I hope to post in a few days some happy news, but for now we just are confined to our home.
